Southern Iowa Mental Health Center (SIMHC) treats clients with mental health and substance abuse challenges through short term assessments at the access center to short stays at crisis stabilization, intensive and extended outpatient programs, adult and children’s services. Their mobile crisis team consists of mental health professionals who are available to respond to a person's home, in a provider’s office, at school or anywhere in the community. SIMHC uses therapies including mindfulness therapy (MT), cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR). Therapists also use dialectical behavior therapy and trauma-focused CBT to help clients understand their thoughts and feelings, develop coping skills, and process difficult experiences, leading to improved well-being. SIMHC provides unique programs like a 23-hour crisis observation unit for immediate support. They also have an integrated health home program to coordinate medical and mental health care for eligible individuals. Additionally, they offer on-site pharmacy services for easy access to medications, benefiting clients and their families.
